Nigel and Sue Barker

Nigel gave up an established and successful business management career in 2005 to pursue his long term interest in monumental masonry. He is keen to uphold the very highest standard of workmanship which can be found in churchyards and cemeteries throughout the area. Since starting in business he has qualified in Memorial Masonry and specialises in using modern methods of inscription. He is particularly interested in raising the standard of designs on headstones and his professionalism, attention to detail and genuine empathy for his clients are all ingredients of his success.

Nigel Barker & Sue Pengilley

Sue studied Lettering at the City and Guilds of London Art School for three years and qualified as a Lettering Artist in 1996. She works almost entirely to commission producing a wide range of work including hand carved lettering in stone, traditional sign painting, calligraphy, art and design. She feels passionately about her craft and the importance of well made lettering, which is a little understood subject in today's technological world. She uses traditional techniques and tools for almost all her work (chisels, paintbrushes and ink pens) and is glad to discuss the history and importance of lettering with anyone who expresses an interest!

Nigel and Sue are able to combine their skills, experience and enthusiasm to provide an extensive range of services, with pricing structures to suit most budgets. Their friendly, relaxed manner is a refreshing departure from our fast moving, modern world of hard sell.

Donald Simpson

Donald SimpsonAlthough not technically part of the Stonewriters' team, Donald Simpson has been a great source of knowledge, inspiration, help and support to us with regard to woodcarving - and so deserves a mention. Donald has been carving wood and stone for many years and his work can be seen in and around numerous churches and homes.
